Inis Nua Theatre Co. — devoted to contemporary plays from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England — presents its first work by a woman playwright, Ireland's Abbie Spallen, who crosses the pond for the Philly première of her acclaimed drama Pumpgirl. Told in interweaving monologues, Pumpgirl stars Sarah Gliko as the title character, a rural tomboy obsessed with racetrack hero "No Helmet" Hammy (Harry Smith) to the chagrin of his embittered wife (Corinna Burns). Pumpgirl continues Philadelphia's first Irish Theatre Festival, in which six area companies produce Irish plays.
