Gay couples aren't able to tie the knot in Pennsyltucky, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't reap the tax benefits afforded to legally married folks. Walter Moyer, an accountant from The Bottom Line Inc., will lead this two-hour discussion about the tax code, underlining strategic ways same-sex couples can finagle every penny they can when tax time rolls around. "While same-sex couples can marry in some states," says Moyer, "the federal government still doesn't allow [them] to file jointly — but there are some benefits to be aware of." But before you and your two-week boyfriend skip to William Way with the intention of scoring some quick government cash, you may want to take heed. Moyer says the allowances generally stretch only to those who own a home or have children.
