"Somewhere Near Peaceful Valley"

25th Annual Writing Contest Poetry Runner-Up

Published: Feb 2, 2011

Tonight is a black bear
sleeping in the graveyard
across the road from the food store.

Last night,
was a years-long war
in an old century, fought
by countries with forgotten names.

Some nights are a burlap sack.
Some, a silk-lined hat.

You are still not here, and tomorrow,
I am sure, will be the darkness
filling the ivy, climbing the bricks.
