Sticks & Stones coming to Passyunk Ave.

Nick Miglino, who recently sold his Felicia's Restaurant to the Devil's Den people, tells us that he'll be back in the game before long with Sticks & Stones (1909 E. Passyunk Ave.), coming this spring to the Avenue space that's housed the Broadway II longer than most of y'all suckers have been alive. It's an interesting development indeed, especially considering Kristian Leuzzi of Kristian's Ristorante is working on Stogie Joe's, in the former Passyunk Tavern, just a block away.

Miglino has the intention of offering a small dinner menu that'll be similar in approach to the old Judy's (now Ansill) at Third and Bainbridge. Specialties of the house — "food that should accommodate almost all of us," Miglino predicts — will include Italian mac and cheese, fish and chips, organic chicken and meatloaf. But the grub will also strike a balance between Mexican, Southeast Asian and "old South Philadelphia sandwich-type things." How? Sharp staffing, kids: Miglino, the South Philly native, will be behind the line, along with a Mexican cook from his old restaurant and a Viet prep chef he knows from around-the-way Nam Phuong. On the booze end of things, expect seven to eight beers on tap, four to five reds and two to three whites.

He also points out that he'll have a late-night menu that'll actually extend into the late night — none of this 11:30 crap. He plans on keeping the kitchen open until 1:30 or 1:45 in the morn. "I've been in the business since I was 18," says Miglino, now 55. "I've always [wanted] a place, when I got done work years ago, where I could go sit and have something to eat that wasn't a diner or Chinatown."
