And more pressingly, what is going on with this "blockbuster announcement" the Le Bec-Fin captain will make on TV at 11? The 6ABC teaser trailer is nice and sensational. (Watch it here. 12 of 12.)
"I'm sad ... but it's time," the iconic chef says cryptically, removing his glasses to wipe either a tear or a dab of Rouennaise sauce from his cheek. Conventional wisdom says he'll drop the bomb that he's retiring and/or LBF is closing after nearly 40 years in business, but that just seems too easy. GP is far too crafty. And considering the pushes he's been making in the past year to, for lack of a better term, "young up" his flagship restaurants (printing the LBF menu in English; lowering prices at Brasserie Perrier; inviting me to cocktail receptions with people way cooler, hotter and richer than me, so I just stand in the corner chugging comp Cotes du Rhone and being like "Dude, is that John Bolaris?!"; etc.), would it be that surprising if this was a launchpad for some newyounghip venture? (Or, as Foobooz notes, a PR push for Table 31, opening May 2?) Got my eye on you, Georges.

UNE “ADMIRATRICE” FOR CHEF’S TALENT
Perhaps it is time for Perrier to retire. Having recently attended an affair where Perrier was chef, dessert was delicious and the filet mignon tender but his asparagus salad was bland, bass was unadorned, and potatoes rather dry. Worst of all, prior to the dinner, Perrier mingled with the guests and the little man was rather rude.
