My brother and I went down to the Schuylkill — AKA The Hidden River (so sad) — to take part in Mayor Nutter's day of cleaning. It was fun and really dirty. (How dirty? Uh, keep scrolling.) We were told as soon as we got there that there were basically too many volunteers for this location. There were definitely too many brooms, as this was a woodsy environment, not linoleum.

So, in an attempt to make us feel useful, some of us were enlisted to put on gloves (props on giving us all good sturdy work gloves) and dig little moats around the river birch trees. We all felt kinda dumb doing this since it's not really cleaning.

As soon as we ran out of moat trees, a bunch of us went rogue, going off the bike path to the train tracks which was a litter goldmine. They gave of nice big brown bags to put stuff in — mostly bottles, rotting clothes and plastic bags. What really pissed us off the was amount of railroad-related debris. It was pretty obvious CSX should be dealing with what must be tons of rusting rails and spikes that are just strewn about the woods. We didn't even try to move that stuff.

Can't blame CSX for this one: Mike scores big points by hauling down a toilet from the top of the hill.

I voted for Michael Nutter. He has repaid me with the opportunity to stand in mud and dig out some hobo's dildo.

Once it was finally time to quit we all retired to the Linc to clean our hands, eat some hamburgers and regale our fellow volunteers with our toilet and dildo stories.

So funny. I guess people really do live in those woods.
[...] only one way to say this, so I’ll just say it: last year, Pat Rapa dug up a hobo’s dildo. Tags: mayor michael nutter, spring [...]
