Isaiah Thompson just came into my office and said that he thought the picture of Mayor Nutter on the front page of phila.gov (normally a home for flattering photos) made the mayor look "frightened and defensive." I disagree — I think he looks perplexed and slightly angry. What do you see?
I’m gonna go with “brooding and contemplative”. That’s his game face. He’s gotta stare down a lot of unsavory characters. Best to plant that expression up front, and gain the psychological edge.
I suppose they’re going for a noble, FDR-esque, New Deal leader look. But I’d say he looks perturbed as hell.
Mayor Nutter is at 80 percent of what we call the “I want” look, which is a frown (vertical furrow between eyebrows) combined with the dawning realization you’re not getting exactly what you want.
Perplexed, as though he just found out that all his money is gone and isn’t sure why.
“The fuck you just said?”
sorrowful. A man who had big dreams of changing things and now finds himself making unpopular budget decisions that are costing people their jobs. I bet he took up serious drinking this month, I would.
