ROCK/POP

You'd be hard-pressed to find a bad song on a Tommy Keene record, and you're not going to find one now. In the Late Bright (Second Motion), Keene's eighth full-length, isn't his most shining moment, but it's a solid addition to a solid discography. As usual, he knows how to create a mood and how to flesh out a scene, and he knows when to rock and when to hold tight. "Elevated" is a 5-minute instrumental that would be the perfect score for a moody movie, while "Nighttime Crime Scene" tugs at your conscious as it hits its mid-tempo stride. And even on less memorable tunes, Keene's guitar jangles and surges in all the right places.
