After getting her shine an impressive five times on Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry, Bassey Ikpi is now orchestrating her own solo show. Philly will get a taste of her innovative approach to the art of spoken word in an evening of poetry and thought-provoking discussion. Though the Nigerian-born poet/writer is taking center stage, an equally talented panel that varies with each city will accompany Ikpi. Expect Chris MacDonald-Dennis, Bryn Mawr College's assistant dean of intercultural affairs; Imani Perry, a Princeton professor of African-American studies; blacksnob.com blogger Danielle Belton; and motivational speaker Charles H.F. Davis III. These panelists will collaborate with the audience and field questions from Twitter to tackle everything from politics to pop culture.

Sat., June 5, 8 p.m., $10-$15, Elena's Lounge, 4912 Baltimore Ave., 215-410-9879, basseyworldlivephilly.eventbrite.com.
