Well EnoughSporadically good food is keeping the Wishing Well out of the gastropub conversation.
by Elisa LudwigAll of the elements for gastropub success — daring dishes, beer nerdery,
nostalgic '80s soundtrack — would seem to be in place here. But so far,
the food, divided into "plates," salads and burgers, is not rising
above average old-school bar fare.

Splitting the AdamIntroducing CP's new restaurant critic, Adam Erace.
by Drew LazorTrey Popp, who started reviewing restaurants for City Paper in 2006, has moved on to become the restaurant critic at Philadelphia
magazine. While we'll certainly miss Trey and his devilishly erudite
stylings, I'm extremely excited to introduce his replacement.

Pizzeria Beddia
115 E. Girard Ave.
No one’s going to accuse Joe Beddia of rushing to market. He’s been making careful study of pizza for years, and early responses to the American-style pies coming out of his new Fishtown spot suggest that all that homework’s paying off. His thin-crust pies are fired on a gas deck a ... more »
Dolphin Tavern
1539 S. Broad St.
215-278-7950
If there’s one thing Philly loves, it’s a bar with character. The Dolphin had it in spades, so when it shut down last year, it was rightly and intensely mourned. Now it is reopened under new management (dominant Four Corners which counts Union Transfer and Morgan’s Pier among its p ... more »
Cedar Point Bar and Kitchen
2370 E. Norris St.
215-423-5400
This brand-new Fishtown spot is the follow-up to NoLibs’ A Full Plate Café, which shuttered late last year. The menu has an unmistakable Southern-comfort motif and seeks to welcome all comers — there’s chicken and waffles and a healthy dose of pork, sure, but there’s also a strong ... more »
Strangelove’s Beer Bar

Husband-and-wife team Leigh Maida and Brendan Hartranft (Memphis Taproom, Resurrection Ale House, Local 44) have finally ventured into Center City, but they’ve managed to bring along some of the neighborhood feel that’s made their other bars so successful. Of course, an expert tap ... more »

Pennsylvania 6 | The ownership team behind City Tap House and the Field House has gone in a decidedly different direction for their new Midtown Village spot. The old Tweed space has been given a seriously luxe makeover with an old-Hollywood feel, courtes ... more »

Vintage Wine Bar and Bistro129 S. 13th St.
215-922-3095
Vintage's interior is relaxed and fun, not one iota of synthetic kitsch to the place. Crate tops decorate a large wall as you enter. Above, there’s a huge bottle-adorned chandelier modeled after vineyard drying racks. In the back, a mirrored divider is covered with more than 4,000 corks owners Jason ... more »
